2016 Global State Of Information Security Survey

The annual Global State of Information Security Survey 2016 is the most comprehensive overview of the evolving information security industry. This year’s results show that organizations are still playing catch up in protecting their assets. Emerging technologies and the adoption of risk frameworks are becoming a key part of cybersecurity.

Key findings:

  • Organizations are actively leveraging new technologies in their security strategies such as, cloud, big data analytics and the Internet of Things (IoT).
    • Seventy percent use cloud-based security services.
    • Fifty-one percent currently employ big data analytics to model for and identify information security incidents.
    • Forty-five percent are implementing or plan to implement IoT in the next 12 months.
  • There is a large focus on the human side of security as 73% of organizations have senior executives who actively communicate security importance to their employees to help mitigate human error security incidents.
  • With increased executive involvement, the top benefits include improved security awareness (38%), increased budgets (37%) and better identification and communication of key risks (37%).
  • Enterprise organizations continue to be more impacted by security incidents than SMBs. The average number of detected security incidents for enterprise organizations in the last 12 months was 9,156 compared to 3,577 on average for SMB organizations.

The results of the Global State of Information Security Survey 2016, produced by PwC, CIO and CSO are based on over 10,000 world-wide respondents.
