Security vendors are doing a great job meeting the needs of their customers, according to a recent study conducted by CSO. The majority of respondents said they were either very satisfied or satisfied with the quality and relevance of products (79%) and services (66%) offered by security vendors.
However, a major shift is taking place in enterprise security and risk now that more and more critical systems are accessed through the cloud and mobile/consumer devices. When asked about the major trends that will have the most profound effect on the role of the security professional in the future, 30% cited mobile, 18% technology-as-a-service, 16% consumerization, 14% social media and 12% big data. More focus is also being put on managing risk, not just security, with more than half (66%) of senior management placing more value on risk management.
Although this means increased opportunity for security vendors, they must keep up with rapidly changing technology trends including mobility, technology-as-a-service, and consumerization to maintain their high satisfaction ratings and remain competitive. The reward for addressing the specific security risks and challenges that these technologies present will be great.
While business and government seek to thrive and compete through productivity, efficiency and new technologies, they must do so securely and practically. Events like the CSO Security Confab conference give security and IT decision-makers the opportunity to share, address and discuss these risk and security topics and provide direction and insight on how to accomplish this in an ever-changing technology landscape. These events are also the perfect opportunity for vendors to chime in.
